Celyn has always maintained strong links with our local Pony Clubs, and a large number of our junior players became involved in the sport through their local branch or centre. We currently have Celyn members who come from Flint & Denbigh, Cheshire Hunt North, East Cheshire, United Pack, Carrington, Wheelton, Rockwood Harriers, Ryburn Valley, Wynnstay and Hurworth Hunt, to name a few. Our coaches also travel out to teach at Pony Club sessions throughout the year.

2015 was a great year for the development of Pony Club polocrosse. Celyn coaches were involved with running sessions for Pony Club players in Areas 3, 4, 5 and 7 locally, and as far afield as areas 1, 2 and 17! We also ran two successful polocrosse camps for PC players, and assisted at the Pony Club Championships by providing a number of umpires and umpire horses, and preparing the pitches beforehand. Our chief coach, Tom Simkin, also delivered demo sessions at the PC Instructors Conferences at the start of the year, and from these several new branches have started to play.

We hosted the inaugural Pony Club Polocrosse ‘Home International’ event at the Celyn tournament, and a number of our members represented their nations: Stuart and Katie were part of the winning England team, Olivia, Emi, Jemma, Sally, kate and Philip were on the second placed Welsh team (coached by Sarah and managed by Anna) and Annabel was on the fourth-placed Scotland team. It was a great event, and we look forward to hosting it again in 2017!

In 2014 we had two Tanatside teams and an Area 5 Mixed team at the Pony Club Championships in the Junior class. All these players had only taken up polocrosse this summer and they did extremely well, with the Tanatside A team in 5th, Area 5 Mix team in 6th, and Tanatside B team in 8th. Tanatside also won the Loriners Bursary Award for the most improved branch!

In 2013, Celyn members Alex, Dan (Cheshire Hunt North) and Lucy (WLIB) were second at the Pony Club Championships in the Charles Mason Open class, and Emily and Becky were part of the Mobberley centre team that came third in the Brookes Minis class. The club also supplied a number of umpires for the Pony Club Championships.

We are always happy to work with local Pony Clubs who would like to give polocrosse a go. If you would like to find out more please contact us.
