On Saturday 25th April we ran our first training day on grass for 2015, and there was plenty going on! We had three training sessions: one with former international player Guy Robertson to work on horsemanship skills for polocrosse, one with Sarah for Celyn members and one with Anna for Pony Club players. Despite the rain showers and the biting wind, we managed to keep going for the full day (full marks to the parents for dedication though, it was freezing on the sidelines!)
This was a fabulous opportunity to train with Guy, who now specialises in starting young horses and the retraining of horses with behavioural problems using Natural Horsemanship methods. Both Gary and Max have worked a lot with Guy over the past few years, and it was great to have the chance to run a different type of training session. Everyone felt that they got a lot out of the day, and we hope to run another session later in the year.
For the Celyn and PC training sessions it was a great chance to start playing chukkas again, and our new players were able to get a good run out on a full sized pitch!
Many thanks to Debbie Pedley for sorting a scrummy lunch, and to Martin for taking up his usual place behind the BBQ! Thanks also to Tom and Barry, who spent the day beavering away behind the scenes marking pitches ready for camp the following week!
